Article 12 – National Commission for Nature
1. The smooth operation of the NATURE 2000 Committee under Article 5 of Joint Ministerial Decision 33318/3028/28-12-1998, whose responsibilities were supplemented by Article 17 of Law 2742/1999, is the responsibility and obligation of the Minister for the Environment, Energy and Climate Change.
2. The National NATURE Committee is the central scientific advisory body of the State for the coordination, monitoring and evaluation of policies and measures for the protection of Greek biodiversity. The Committee shall be administratively assisted by the services of the National Centre for the Environment and Sustainable Development.
3. In Article 17 of Law 2742/1999, subparagraphs f΄ and g΄ are added as follows:
"f. It oversees the programmes for scientific monitoring and management of biodiversity and cooperates with the bodies responsible for their implementation to ensure that the data and available information on the conservation status of protected species and habitats are usable for their effective management.’
"g. Cooperates with the Directorate-General for the Environment of the Ministry of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change to formulate specifications for the inventory of Greek biodiversity, which is drawn up every ten years;’
